Siem Reap Adventure

Enroute Siem Reap, Where playing with food is beyond acceptable.

I had gotten off the bus and was talking to someone. The next thing I know this local put a tarantula on my arm. Oh look, there is a giant spider on my arm. Oh, he has a twin. I guess I shall pose for a pic with these cute little furry creatures. Anyone would have done the same. Interestingly, the spiders have these weird claws on each leg, feel really weird when they crawl on you. Also, they sort of cling to you when there are being pulled off of you. I would do it again - kinda awesome.

Random stop between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap

Fresh Catch
Cooked Tarantulas - Deep Fried tarantulas, sweetly glazed in a salt, sugar, and lychee sauce. Quite the "on the road snack." I tried an leg. The texture was like that of the breading on fried chicken with a nice 'velvety' texture. The taste was sweet and salty.  Wasn't awful.  The locals let you know if the tarantulas are male or female.  If you are not into surprise egg sacks nor hundreds of spider babies, you may want to choose the male. I didn't dive into the abdomen, slightly car sick. And, for whatever reason, I was not feeling full on tarantula. Cost, $1 - although I am fairly certain you could bargain one for less.

Eggs, grasshoppers, beetles, cockroaches!
 Quail

A little girl bought me this mill fruit because she wanted me to try it. The center is soft and sweet. Each section has it's own pit. Glad I tried, ok I if I never had it again.
